A Garden project in its various stages
Some times it is difficult to visualise what goes into a garden project.
Picture 1. The garden before any work is carried out. Looking for ideas.
Picture 2. The garden stripped of plants and turf. The plan is forming.
Picture 3. The shape of the wall is outlined in sand. Constructing the plan.
Picture 4. The garden is complete and starting to mature. All it needs now is time to mature.
In a years time the garden will have been transformed again.
Low maintenance garden
The Ultimate Low Maintenance Garden
My brief on this project was to produce a garden that required next to no maintenance.
The solution was to remove all the grass and lay 60sqm of weed suppressing membrane, import 5T of Fermanagh Gold chips from In The bag and then lay a 12sqm patio. The outcome was one delighted client in Whitehall, Dublin 7.
Before and after pictures below.
If you have a sloping garden this could be the solution
A FANTASTIC SOLUTION FOR SLOPING GARDENS
A client of mine had a sloping lawn and they felt it meant they could not fully enjoy their garden, we discussed various solutions including sleepers and a brick wall but we decided to go with a small retaining wall, mainly due to its appearance and its ability to allow us to use the blocks to create steps and a curved wall. The resulting wall is now my clients favourite part of their new garden!
Before and after pictures below.
ADD A HARDSTANDING AREA FOR YOUR BINS
HARD STANDING AREA FOR BINS
If you think where you store your bins is an eyesore why not try this quick and easy solution. Remove the turf, put down weed suppressing membrane, lay paving onto hardcore and cover the matting with gravel.
Why you should always remove leaves from a lawn
WHY SHOULD YOU REMOVE LEAVES FROM A LAWN?
If leaves are left on a lawn they stop the light getting through to the grass and the grass cannot grow. This picture shows the results of leaves being left on a lawn for only 2 weeks.
The solution for this lawn is to keep it leaf free and re-seed in the Spring.
Muddy Boots
MUDDY BOOTS! Does the prospect of getting muddy boots keep you out of the garden at this time of year? Here's the solution. Grow n Mow can lay a path in your garden and make muddy feet a thing of the past!
Garden Screen
Garden Screen
If you have something in your garden that is a bit of an eye sore why not try a garden screen. These before and after shots of a garden in Carpenterstown, Dublin 15, show the dramatic difference with the addition of a simple garden screen.
Autumn Garden Maintenance
Autumn garden maintenance.
Autumn is well and truly here and more and more leaves appear by the day!
Let Grow n Mow give your garden one last tidy up before winter. We can prune your plants, weed the borders, clean the paving, tidy up leaves and much much more.
Dwarf Wall
USING A DWARF WALL AS A RAISED BED
This is one of my favourite additions to any garden, a dwarf wall.
It gives added soil depth, it makes working on the bed easier on the back and it looks terrific.
This one is from a recently completed job in Carpenterstown, Dublin 15.
Water Butt
SAVE ON WATER CHARGES!
Installing a WATER BUTT is the quickest way to save on water charges.
Saving rain water from a down pipe will give you free water to use on your plants. Install one now and it will be full and ready to be used by the Spring.
Grow n Mow can install water butts of various sizes.
Sweet Peas
SWEET PEAS
Leave your sweet pea pods on the plant until they turn brown, pick the pods, open them and store the seeds in a dry cool place until spring. Plant the seeds in a pot then transplant out doors when they are about 3-4 inches tall.
Hedge Blackrock
ARE YOUR HEDGES OUTGROWING YOUR GARDEN?
If your hedges need to be trimmed let Grow n Mow take the pain out of the the job.
Wellie Boot planter
Wellie Boot Planter.
The wellie boot planter solves a few problems, 1. You can recycle your daughters wellies! 2. It keeps your strawberries off the ground 3. It's a bit of a climb for even the hungriest slug!
First, using a large washer and a screw fix the wellies to a garden post. Second, fill the boots with compost and strawberry plants.
House warming present 6 fruit bushes
A Great Idea For A House Warming Present.
How about this for a house warming present; 1 red goosberry, 1 green gooseberry, 1 loganberry, 1 raspberry, 1 tayberry and 1 blackcurrant, delivered and planted!
Now that's thoughtful present for Marta in Clonsilla.
Tyrellstown before & after
A Before & After of my latest completed project in Tyrellstown, Dublin 15.
A low maintenance garden was required which could accomodate a table and chairs to enjoy our hot summers!
The completed garden used classic buff paving, clonard gold chips a roll out lawn and Gooseberrry and Blackcurrant bushes.
A little work makes a BIG difference
This recently completed job in Castleknock, Dublin 15, shows that a bit of hard work can make a big difference to the appearance of almost any garden. All I did was remove some weeds and unwanted plants and add golden gravel, weed suppressing mat and some stunning Pheasant Tailed grass. This one will only get better and better as the grass fills out.
Malahide before & after
This garden in Malahide looked like it didn't need a lot of work but after trimming the large shrubs, painting the fence, weeding, cleaning the paving and general tidying up, the light is now pouring in and the garden is ready for the summer.

Walkinstown before & after
Project location, Walkinstown. Job out line; Remove roots, rotovate and reseed lawn. A tough job but a very rewarding outcome. A little rain and a touch of sun and this back garden will be transformed.
Lets Chit!
Lets Chit !.
If you are looking to get your vegetable plot started there is no better first crop than potatoes. You need to use seed potatoes and you should chit (sprout) them. This improves the chances of success and increases the crop yield. To chit the potato simply place it in an egg box with any shoots facing upwards. Place the potatoes in a cool light position and when the bud is about 2/3 cm long they are ready for planting. Planting should take place when the soil has warmed up in March/April. Stagger the planting of your potatoes by 3/4 weeks to elongate the period you can harvest them.
Good luck!
